We all get tired. Some of us more than others.
You know how it feels when you are just too drained of energy to do your homework, or study for that really important test you have tomorrow. I’ve felt it, you’ve felt it, we’ve all felt it. And we will all feel it, again and again.
You’re probably feeling a bit drained right now. Or maybe you want to know what to do when you do feel drained.
We often associate energy with food and sleep (and coffee), but there’s sooo much more that can give us energy.
In this post, you will learn how to gain energy fast, and effectively, and how to keep that energy up for the whole day.
How to gain energy fast!
There are the obvious things like get enough sleep at night, and many people go to coffee for help, but while those do help (and sleep is a necessity – read my post ‘Sleep – Why it’s so Important’ for more about Sleep), there are lots of other things we can do to stay energised.
Hydrate for more Energy!
Dehydration is a big source of fatigue.
A lot of people (especially teenagers) don’t drink much water at all – all there hydration comes from other drinks like juice, fizzy drinks (e.g. coke or 7 Up), coffee, or other drinks that aren’t good for you.
It is really important that you are drinking enough water.
A great way to do this is to purchase a water bottle that you can carry around with you. (Even better – A bottle that has timings down the side to help to you stay on track).

Exercise

Many people assume that exercise makes you tired, and you’ll be unable to focus after you exercise.
That is INCORRECT. Straight away after exercising, you will feel a little tired… but then you get a burst of energy, and your focus is sooo much better.
Last week I was doing athletics after school. I’m awful at running, and throwing, and jumping, but i enjoy it anyway. We had just ran 600 meters, and i was exhausted. 2 minutes later we were told to sprint a hundred meters. I was waaayy faster after running the 600 meters than I would have if we sprinted before it.
So, exercise can actually improve your focus, therefore improve your results. (And it gives you energy too, of course).
Eat a healthy snack for more Energy
Eating sweets and chocolate gives us energy for a moment, but it only lasts for a short while. A healthy snack can boost your energy more than chocolate or sweets, and it lasts longer.
Choosing a snack that is high in protein and/or healthy fats (e.g. yogurt or nuts) can give you a quick energy boost that lasts longer than chocolate or sweets.

Take a Nap

A quick 20 – 30 minute nap may be all you need to up your energy.
Of course, if you’re the kind of person that can’t sleep during the day (like me), or only feels more tired after a nap (also like me), this isn’t going to work.
Practise Meditation
Deep breathing exercises can help you reduce stress and increase oxygen levels in your body, leading to increased energy.
Meditation can calm the mind, and take your attention from things that drain you, to things that fill you up.

Happy, Upbeat Music

Listening to music with a fast tempo can boost your mood and energy levels
Sad music makes you feel sad and tired. Happy music makes you feel happy and energised. It’s as simple as that.
Get some Sunlight and Fresh Air
Exposure to sunlight can increase your body’s production of vitamin D, which can help boost energy levels.
Ever noticed that weather often determines your mood when you wake up?
If it’s cloudy and miserable, we become sad. If it’s bright and sunny, we automatically assume it will be a good day.
Even if it’s cloudy, make sure to go outside for some fresh air.

Conclusion
Incorporating these simple tips into your daily routine can help you feel more energised and productive throughout the day.
Remember – you need to listen to your body and fix any causes of fatigue, such as poor sleep habits or a lack of movement/exercise. By taking care of your body and mind, you can maintain your energy levels and stay on top of your daily tasks and responsibilities.
So, the next time you feel you’re about to drop down asleep, try one of these quick and easy ways to boost your energy and get back on track.
