We all want to be the best version of ourselves – but most of the time we just sit around doing the same things and scrolling through social media for hours on end, expecting things to change without us having to lift a finger. We don’ want to have to put effort into building good habits!

But no, of course that’s not how life works. Instead we have to put the effort in if we want to see change. And when we want to see real, long lasting change, consistency is key. So that really just leads to habits – because, well, habits are things that we do consistently, like brushing our teeth and going to school.

Good habits lead to good results, so, without further ado, I give you 7 Habits that you should do daily!

1 – Level Up Your Hydration

I know it’s basic but if you drink more water, well, there are so many good effects. Let’s look at the basics – we need water to survive. You can’t go more than 3 days without drinking. Water is so important. I have a water bottle that I love and I always have it with me. I drink about 3 bottles of water every day, and, on the days where I drink a lot less, I feel a lot more tired. So it boosts my energy – and it’s great for my skin!

2 – Move Everyday

Not everyone enjoys exercising, even though there are so many ways to do it without getting bored! You don’t need to go to the gym or do hour long workouts everyday – but movement is important. There are dance workouts on YouTube, ballet fit classes on YouTube, etc. (Basically – YouTube has it all). In my opinion, moving and exercising is about being happy. I always find that on days where I do clubs or have PE I’m often in a much better mood than on other days. It’s an important thing, even if it’s only 10 minutes everyday – something is better than nothing.

3 – Practise gratitude and positivity

Gratitude. We are always being told to be more grateful for things, whether it’s a hand me down pair of jeans or a brand new laptop. But those are just the obvious things – what about your teachers? What about your friend who made you laugh? We aren’t always told to be grateful for everyday things, such as your favourite movie. A couple of minutes of gratitude every morning can put you in a good mood for the rest of the day. I own gratitude cards, and I read one every morning to help me with practising gratitude – I would definitely recommend them (you can find a link to some gratitude cards in the shop section). “Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.” – Amy Collette.

4 – Prioritise

We all have priorities. Most of the time we have tasks that are more important than others. When we have lots of tasks, the best thing to do is prioritise them. Say you have 6 tasks – you could then separate them into low priority, medium priority and high priority. 1 high, 2 medium and 3 low priority tasks. You’re highest priority task(s) should be done first in the day (or at night if you work better at night)! This way you always go to bed feeling as though you achieved something because you did the most important task – even if you didn’t do any other tasks!

5 – Daily Resets

I’m sure you’ve heard of a yearly reset – you know, at the start of the year, that first week in January where everyone is being their best selves and getting everything sorted? Well, you can do a reset at any time.

A daily reset is important so that you can start your day with a fresh mind, not worrying about yesterday’s struggles – although sometimes that can’t be avoided. Your daily reset could consist of journaling, cleaning your room, having a shower and planning out thed at ahead. You could do this at the start or end of your day. I do mine at the end of that day because I like to go to bed not worrying about tomorrow, knowing that i’m going to have a fresh start.

Daily resets connect to things like being prepared, productive and happy because that’s what a fresh start everyday will give us.

6 – Do something you enjoy

Everyday. Do something you enjoy everyday. Life can get bleak and boring, the days all blending into each other – a mess of school and homework and studying and sleep and all the other things we do. Doing the same boring thing everyday gets boring pretty fast.

But life is supposed to be fun and enjoyable – so do something fun everyday. For me, I love things like reading, drawing and sports (mostly netball). I do at least one of these things everyday, that way the days don’t all blend together quite so much.

7 – You should get dressed everyday!

Now this is a-not-so fun one. Sometimes we all just want to stay in our pyjamas or comfy clothes all day. Getting dressed can just seem so miserable to some of us! But getting dressed can really give a boost in motivation or energy.

If I stay in my pyjamas or comfy clothes all day, I know that I’m not going to get anything done. Instead i’m just going to sit around watching TikTok and YouTube and doing absolutely nothing. Also, when I get dressed, I feel a lot more confident than if I were to wear jogging bottoms and a hoodie all day, and I’m sure you would too!

Even if I’m not going out at all, I still like to feel confident in myself, and I find that a lot harder when I don’t look good.

Building these habits will improve your overall well being and life!
